BILLBOARD ADVERTISING DATING SITE ONLY FOR WHITE PEOPLE CAUSES CONTROVERSY

Usually, when you hear about the state of Utah you think of the city that you heard about in geography, which is Salt Lake City. But now, when you think of the state something else might actually come to mind. A billboard in West Valley City, Utah, has people turning heads, and while some are excited about the new billboard others are unsure of really what to think.

The billboard has been oddly placed in the smack dab middle of a freeway advertising a new dating website called WhereWhitePeopleMeet.com. Now, strangely enough, some people might consider the billboard to be a little racist because the new site is marketed only for white people, according to the 2014 census, the state of Utah is made up of 91% white people.

The local NAACP president, Jeanetta Williams spoke out about the billboard to the Salt Lake Tribune. She states, “A large population here is white. So you’re going to put up billboards here so you can meet other white singles? Every day you can meet white singles.”While other residents are unsure what is wrong with the site – they don’t see anything wrong with a white person only wanting to date another white person. There are dating sites that are designated for Black, Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, and even farmers.

Now even if you are Black or of Hispanic descent and you enjoy dating white people, the website says it’s okay – people of any race can join the site as long as they are 18 and follow the rules and regulations.

Also, if you are white and gay, you can’t go on the site just yet. The website only allows men to search for women, and women to search for men, but get this, if you’re married, you can search for dates. Y’all remember HBO’s show “Big Love?” *sips tea*
