Controversy still lingers a year after police shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s seems as if people are out to add insult to injury any chance they get.
Just over a month ago, the city sent his family a $500 hospital bill from his dying ambulance ride. And now, a Cleveland city employee found it appropriate to exercise his right to free speech on Facebook to express how he wish he would have killed “the little criminal” himself.
The post read, “Tamir Rice should have been shot and I am glad he is dead… I wish I was in the park that day as he terrorized innocent patrons by pointing a gun at them. I am upset I did not get the chance to kill the little criminal (expletive).”
Those are the words of Jamie Marquardt, and Emergency Medical Systems Captain. He has since been fired in consequence of that post.
A spokesman for the city, Dan Williams, described the posts as “egregious” and told a newspaper that “the posts were not acceptable and do not represent the views or standards of the City of Cleveland administration, Department of Public Safety or Division of Emergency Medical Services.”
Of course, Marquardt is insisting he’s innocent and is claiming, “I did not do it. I presented evidence to the city of Cleveland that I did not do it. They fired me simply because it was on the news.”
Hmm….
