Looks like the state of Georgia may not be so peachy if a new anti-gay bill gets signed! Word is major companies like Disney, Marvel, and the NFL are seeking to boycott the southern state if it does!
According to Entertainment Tonight, Georgia is getting heat for its religious liberty law also known as the Free Exercise Protection Act, which enables businesses to turn away members of the LGBT community if they feel as though accepting them will strongly interfere with their own faith.
Gov. Nathan Deal has the authority to veto or sign House Bill 757, but if he does agree to do so, then you can say goodbye to entertainment and sports corporations—well at least in Georgia! This state alone is known as a main attraction for some of your favorite Marvel movies including, Hunger Games, The Walking Dead, and you can’t forget future Super Bowl games waiting to take place in the Atlanta Falcons home town.
“NFL policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness, and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other proper standard,” spokesman Brian McCarthy said.
The vast comic collection and movie sequel, Marvel Studios, who is under contract with The Walt Disney Corp. is already in production in Georgia for their new movie, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but they will take their business elsewhere “should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law,” said The Walt Disney Corp. in a statement on Wednesday.
Viacom and the Human Rights Campaign are other companies that feel uncomfortable working in the state if the bill goes through but are hoping he will make the right decision for the sake of loyal businesses and citizens. The Human Rights Campaign has already told Hollywood companies to cancel productions if the bill actually does go through.
