Retired Baltimore Neurosurgeon, Ben Carson, has announced that he would be running for 2016 president as a Republican.
Now being the Republicans first high profiled candidate especially after being the only African American suspected to run for presidency, Carson has now made headlines for something even more controversial! He believes that being homosexual is a choice and believes that he has the proof!
Carson sat in on a segment of CNN’s morning show “New Day” with host Chris Cuomo. Carson says that prison is proof that being gay is a choice because many walk in straight without ever touching a man, but upon release many people tend to switch sides.
“Absolutely,” Carson said Cuomo. “Because a lot of people who go into prison — go into prison straight, and when they come out they’re gay. So did something happen while they were in there?”
Cuomo contradicted Carson’s claims by responding with, “A lot of people go into jail as a drug addict and they come out as a criminal. Does that mean that all drug addicts are criminals?”
The comments came after MLB’s inclusion ambassador, Billy Bean, visited major league teams to discuss the importance of accepting homosexuality in sports. Mets second baseman and devout Christian, Daniel Murphy, made remarks saying he disagreed with Billy Bean’s gay lifestyle and in a way opening up the discussion of whether being homosexual is or isn’t a choice.
Carson, 63, solidified his alliance with the Republicans after openly criticizing Obama’s health plan at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. Also an author, Carson could not be reached for any further comments on the controversial matter but did end his discussion with Cuomo with saying, that regardless of a person’s sexuality, everyone should be granted the same legal rights without having to put a title of marriage on their relationship.
