21 Savage Speaks Out In His First Interview Since His Release

21 Savage was released from an ICE detention center earlier this week. Shortly after his release, he sat down with Linsey Davis for Good Morning America for his first interview.

During the interview, he detailed what happened the day he was arrested. He said, “I was just driving. And I just seen guns and blue lights. And, then, I was in the back of a car. And I was gone.” He continued to say that officials didn’t even tell him he was under arrest. “They didn’t say nothing. They just said, ‘We got Savage.'”

Reflecting on the arrest, 21 Savage said, “I feel like I done been through so much in my life, like, I learned to embrace the times when I’m down ’cause they always build me up and take me to a new level in life. So it’s like even if I’m sitting in a cell on 23-hour lockdown, in my mind, I know what’s gonna come after that. So I’m not happy about it. But I’m accepting of it.”

Born Abraham-Joseph in 1992, 21 Savage detailed when he first came to the United States. He said, “I was seven when I first came here. And we had left in, like, 2005 ’cause my uncle died, my Uncle Foster. So we went back to go to his funeral, and, then, we came back.”

He added, “So that’s why I think [ICE] got it confused where they thought, like, that was my first coming.”

Dina LaPolt, his lead attorney said, “We are in the middle of securing his immigration status so he is a citizen, but it is very complicated and there’s a lot of steps we have to go through.”

Since his arrest 21 Savage has received support from many of his fans from all over and also his peers in the hip hop community.
