The case against Mexican drug lord, El Chapo has remained out of headlines for some time… well until now that is. The judge who presided over thw case was gunned down Monday.
Judge Vincent Bermudez Zacarias was reportedly jogging by his house in Metepec, just about 50 miles outside of Mexico City, when the gunman came from behind and shot him in the back of the head. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Unfortunately, he was not given any special protection during his time presiding over El Chapo’s case, but it is not yet confirmed whether or not El Chapo had any part in the murder.
Whoever was responsible for the shooting reportedly fled the scene immediately after.
El Chapo will possibly be extradited to the U.S. in 2017.
