Niecy Nash is calling for a change in the wake of The Covenant School shooting in Nashville on Monday. The 53-year-old took to TikTok Monday evening and revealed that her only brother lost his life during a shooting on his high school campus in 1993. In addition, Nash also called for the public, and the government, to show more concern for children’s safety.

Niecy Nash Reflected On Grief & The Impact Of Her Late Brother’s Death

On Monday evening, the 53-year-old took to TikTok and shared a 2-minute video with a caption.

“I can’t think of one reason for a citizen to own an assault riffle”

In the video, Nash began to speak through tears.

“In 1993, my only brother was killed on his high school campus because somebody brought a gun to school. It’s 2023, and there’s babies who will never make it home to see their parents. And those parents will forever be in a space where they’re like, ‘What was the last thing I said? What was the last lunch I made? What was their last thought — experience? Did they call out for me?'”

The Actor Called On The Public To Shift Their Political Concerns

The 53-year-old continued by explaining that legislation related to drag shows and critical race theory classes should not take precedence over issues surrounding children’s safety and school shootings.

“We are in a place and a space in this country where we are worried about what happens at a drag show brunch… what not to teach in critical race theory… these are the wrong things…”

Additionally, Nash explained that the country is “losing” its way.

“These are the wrong things. It’s the wrong thing, and it is indeed the wrong time. We are losing our way. Some political groups are so focused on the wrong thing that our children are dying. And there ain’t no coming back from that… Not even a little bit.”

Lastly, the actor ended the video by sending her condolences and prayers to the families of all those affected by Monday’s shooting at The Covenant School.

“I am so sorry. And my prayers go out to those families because it’s a pain that I don’t wish on nobody. School is the one place where children should be safe. Now, they’ll be safe getting on an airplane. But school? That’s another thing. And it shouldn’t be.”

More Details About The 1993 Shooting That Claimed The Life Of Nash’s Brother & What Authorities Know About The Nashville Shooting

According to Los Angeles Times, Nash’s brother, Michael Ensley was “shot to death” at Reseda High School in Reseda, California on February 22, 1993. Ensley was 17 years old. Nash’s mother, Margaret Ensley, reportedly went on to launch the foundation Mothers Against Violence in School (MAVInS).

Nash is a spokesperson for the organization.

My only brother, Michael Ensley was killed on his high school campus….. the NRA wants assault rifles on the streets but wants to ban drag shows & CRT? 👀 The focus is definitely off here 🥲

As The Shade Room previously reported, the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville took place early on Monday. Three children, named Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9, were killed. As well as three adults, named Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.

Additionally, the shooter has since been identified as Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old who once attended the school. Hale was killed by authorities.
