Roc Nation is countersuing British singer Rita Ora for $2.4 million for breaking her recording contract just six weeks after she tried to sue them to get out of the deal.
Ora originally sued the label for allegedly pushing her career to the side when they starting taking on professional athletes as clients. Roc Nation isn’t having that, they are shooting down this argument saying that they have spent over $2 million developing her still coming second album, according to Page six.
Rita was once Jay Z’s protégé but never took off as the megastar that he had imagined and Roc Nation is fed up. They say they took her in when she was an “unknown singer” and have tirelessly promoted her career. Ora’s lawyer says that Jay Z has promised her freedom from the label but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be easy for her to slide out of the deal.
Both her original suit, filed in Los Angeles and the countersuit are still pending. It’ll be interesting to see who really has to pay up at the end of this messy situation!
