Gwyneth Paltrow had some interesting advice for white women at the Makers Conference in Beverly Hills on Thursday. The Oscar winner encouraged the audience to mirror Black women’s approach to self-love, TMZ reports.

Here’s What Gwyneth Paltrow Said

During her appearance alongside Dr. Ella Bell, a Black Professor at Dartmouth College, she praised her Black girlfriends for their “incredible intrinsic self-honoring.”

Paltrow reportedly said this “self-honoring” for Black women is “from the deepest part of their souls all the way to the tips of their fingers.”The Goop founder was criticized for being tone-deaf, while others understood her message. The “Thanks for Sharing” actress stated she admired how self-assured her Black peers were in comparison to observations of her Caucasian crew.

“Black women friends know themselves, love themselves, in a way that I think white women are not taught to,” Gwyneth explained.

TMZ reported, the thespian expressed how white women are usually taught to be competitive. Additionally, she expressed her desire for the group to shift their mindset.

“I think white women are taught to be competitive with one another which is something I’ve tried to work so hard to dispel, because I don’t believe in competition between women — but we’re raised to be competitive, to be jealous, to look over each other’s shoulders,” she continued.

Gwen explained there was a completely different energy in her “circle” of Black compadres.

“I’ve learned so much from my Black friends about ruthless self-acceptance and full love of self, the actress noted.

Furthermore, she told the crowd they can “learn from our Black sisters and the way in which they respect themselves.”

The Lifestyle Guru Speaks On Patriarchy

The “Avengers” actress emphasized how “the man” uses the division of White women to keep a sexist system running smoothly.
“Keeping white women at odds with each other, in competition with one another, keeps the patriarchy strong,” she said. “You don’t have to get less because somebody is going to get more,” she shared.
The lifestyle guru clearly intended for her message to be encouraging, but she’s been hit with a barrage of criticism. What do you think about Gwen’s advice?
