Another day another magazine slayed by Rihanna! Her stunning cover of Vogue leads to an enticing update on her life within the pages. Everything from her love life to the social media-made beef with Beyoncé was put on the table.
First, she low key shuts down the rumor of any #BaeWatch anyone’s been trying to tag on her, “My schedule is so crazy right now . . . It’s definitely going to be a challenge when I do decide to pursue a relationship . . . but I have hope!”
But what we really wanted to know was what he deal is with this Rihanna-Beyoncé beef rumor? If memory serves us right, Beyoncé dropped “Formation” the same week as Anti’s chart climbing. From the moment Bey’s PSA hit airwaves and the blogosphere, the Beyhive and Navy have been volleying arguments and assumptions of a beef.
“Here’s the deal,” she said. “They just get so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.”
And if you were a part of the crew that was wondering why she hadn’t put out an album in so long, she said that after her Unapologetic tour ended she made a promise to herself to take a break from recording but that didn’t last but a few days!
“I wanted to have a year to just do whatever I want artistically, creatively,” she said. “I lasted a week.” She says the papz caught her strolling into the studio and automatically assumed an album was underway.
“. . . and my fans were like, ‘Oh, yes! We’s droppin’ a single.’ ”
Although the Navy had their high hopes and expectations, Rih made them wait two whole years.
As far as ANTI goes, a majority would say it was well worth the wait. She didn’t make a comeback with a familiar sound or genre, ANTI was in a class of its own. She actually said that she just wasn’t here for the pop formula and was bored with it.
“Very much,” the singer says. “I just gravitated toward the songs that were honest to where I’m at right now.”
And then there’s “Work,” the song that everyone has been trying to figure out exactly what she’s talking about after her repetitive “work” line.
As som expected, it has ties to her home culture, Barbados.
“You get what I’m saying, but it’s not all the way perfect,” she says. “Because that’s how we speak in the Caribbean.”
That clears that’s up for the lyrics, but this video? Chile! She and Drake look like they were having the time of their life. It’s actually the reason behind the rumors of another budding relationship.
Rihanna explains otherwise — that was also a tribute to her home. She says all their touchy-feely behavior is just a depiction of how they party in the dance hall back in Barbados.
” . . . we would go to in the Caribbean and just dance and drink and smoke and flirt.”
So that’s it, people; just a tribute and nothing more!
