At least 19 people have been confirmed dead, and 26 injured following a deadly stabbing that took place at a facility for disabled people, located west of Tokyo.
According to CNN, this is the Japan’s most deadly mass killing since World War II, with the victim’s ages ranging from 18 to 70.
The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old, Satoshi Uematsu. He worked at the facility up until February. However, it’s unclear if he resigned from his position or if he was fired.
According to reports he entered the facility through a window around 2am on Tuesday. One of the current employees called the police to notify them of the attack, and Uematsu turned himself in around 3am.
The motive behind this incident is still unknown, but Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga confirmed that this was no terror attack linked to ISIS. However, reports said the suspect did take a letter to the Japanese legislature, which outlined that putting the disabled out of their misery was accepted.
Of the 26 people injured, 13 of them were severely hurt, 10 suffered moderate injuries and the remaining suffered minor injuries.
