Last night Drake performed his third concert at Madison Square Garden, as his Summer Sixteen Tour made its stop in New York City.
However, if you were not at the show, you were probably tuned in to Hot 97 to listen to Funk Flex’s show. The DJ promised that he had a few stories to tell about Drake following his diss during his Thursday night concert.
If you remember Drake took the stage during his first night at MSG and said, “They telling lies on Hot 97, that’s how it goes / I told ‘em fire Funk Flex and then I’ll do your show / Plus, me and Kanye just got out the studio / My first night in the Garden, feeling like D Rose.”
During the live broadcast Flex made it clear that Drake’s words definitely did not put his position at the station in jeopardy. He said, “First of all, Drake, I’m not really worried about you making me lose my job. 70% of your fans wear high heels. The other 30% are guys who wear sandals. I’m not concerned about you.”
He would continue to throw shots at Drake calling him “Sandal Man” throughout his entire broadcast.
He then went on to tell one of two stories.
The first dated back to a freestyle Drake did in 2009 at Hot 97. This freestyle in particular was talked about because throughout the entire freestyle it appeared that Drake was allegedly reading his rhymes from a blackberry. However, Flex claims that video was never supposed to get released, out of consideration for Drake. Nonetheless, Drake’s team wanted it released to prove that he wrote his own raps.
Flex said, “You wanted people to think that you write your bars, you wanted people to think that on that BlackBerry those [words] were yours, and that you wrote that. I see through you. And that’s why you so angry.”
When it comes to the other story, Funk Flex decided to revisit the whole Meek Mill beef from last year. If you all can remember, Flex was the one, who leaked the alleged Quentin Miller reference tracks. Accusing Drake of not being 100% responsible for all of his bars on his hit singles. All of which started the rumors of Drizzy having ghostwriters behind him.
He said, “Let me tell you something, Drizzy. You know what you should’ve just done, bruh? Reference tracks came, you should’ve just said, ‘Bruh, I got a couple people who help me with a couple things and keep it moving. It doesn’t change you.”
In the end, Funk Flex never discredited Drake as an artist and admitted to liking some of his music. He even played a few of his tracks, but of course while calling his “Sandal Man” throughout the night.
