Diddy Once Said He’s ‘Gotta Move On’ From Cassie?
Released in 2022, ‘Gotta Move On’ had fans buzzing from the jump. Diddy hadn’t dropped a hit in years, and the timing raised eyebrows. It came just a few years after Cassie publicly moved on and married her personal trainer, Alex Fine. This track is widely interpreted as Diddy’s attempt to save face while processing the loss of someone he thought would never walk away. And, the lyrics seemingly drip with heartbreak:
“You found a new man, so I gotta move on / Guess you got a new agenda, with someone you barely know.”
What makes it especially eyebrow-raising? In a now-deleted Instagram post, Alex Fine allegedly addressed the songwriting:
“Happy pride to all my LGBTQ+ friends. Attached is a charity that helps people who are in the closet, and GOTTA MOVE ON.”
Cassie Was A ‘Diamond Girl’
Though not performed by Diddy himself, ‘Diamond Girl’ by Ryan Leslie (Cassie’s ex) was produced when Diddy and Cassie’s relationship was allegedly heating up. The lyrics, “Can’t explain just how much you shine / Give me your heart, I’ll give you mine” paint a picture of a woman adored and admired. Additionally, during an interview on The Breakfast Club, Ryan confirmed the origin of the record, saying:
“The story behind ‘Diamond Girl’ was we were working on Cassie’s second album in L.A. and because of whatever was going on personally in her life, she didn’t show up at the studio that day, I had the beat ready to go. She didn’t show up at the studio, I recorded ‘Diamond Girl.’ So, I think that from a music standpoint, the greatest music is always born out of whatever you’re going through.”
