Back in 2009 the world unfortunately lost the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The legendary singer left behind a number of family members, including his three children, Michael, Paris and Prince.
Now his middle child and only girl, Paris Jackson, is opening up to Rolling Stone about her father, her ethnicity, the current relationship with her mother, Debbie Rowe and much more.
For many years Michael Jackson has shielded his children from the media, and many fans never really got to know what he was like as a father. Paris talked about not really realizing her father was an icon at such a young age.
She said, “I just thought his name was Dad, Daddy. We didn’t really know who he was. But he was our world. And we were his world.”
Paris also talked about some of the similarities that she shared with her father. She faced a dark period within her life and suffered from depression. She talked briefly about one of her suicide attempts.
“I was actually crazy. I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help.”
Fast-forward the 18-year-old is now in a better space within her life.
Also in the interview she also addressed the many rumors of Michael Jackson not being her biological father and her not really being black. She said, “He is my father. He will always be my father. He never wasn’t, and he never will not be.”
When it comes to her being black she said, “I consider myself black.” She added that her father, “would look me in the eyes and he’d point his finger at me and he’d be like, ‘You’re black. Be proud of your roots.’ And I’d be like, ‘OK, he’s my dad, why would he lie to me?’”
For many years Paris said that her mom did not exist to her, but around the age of 10 she asked her father about her mother after realizing that a man cannot have children on his own, she asked her mothers name.
Her father told her about her mother Debbie Rowe, but the two wouldn’t get together until she was 13-years-old following her father’s death. She said, “By the time my mom came into my life, it wasn’t a ‘mommy’ thing. It’s more of an adult relationship.”
She named her grandmother, Katherine Jackson, her nannies and family members as the mother figures within her life.
