According to Sports Illustrated, the annual game has been the target of strong criticism for the past few years. However, the match-up that went down on Sunday, February 15, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, appeared to give viewers a revival of excitement. Per the outlet, the league switched things up by introducing a “Team USA vs. World concept.”
Three teams in total were created for this year’s All-Star Game. Specifically, two of the three teams featured only American-born players, while the third included international players.
“The three squads will play a round-robin tournament; the first round features three 12-minute games. After those three games are played, the two teams with the best records will play one last 12-minute ‘championship’ game to determine this year’s All-Star winner. Who wins each game is simply based on who has the most points when the clock runs out,” Sports Illustrated reported on February 12.
