It’s been two-and-half years since Mike Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo. Using previously unseen surveillance video, a documentary claims that Mike didn’t rob the liquor store moments before he was shot and killed.
The documentary, “Stranger Fruit” by Jason Pollock debuted Saturday at a film festival in Austin, Texas. The new surveillance video suggests that Brown’s altercation with the employees was part of a misunderstanding tied to a “possible earlier drug transaction.”
According to Kansas City , Brown showed up at the liquor around 1:15 a.m. the day he was shot and killed.
Pollock claims that Brown gave the workers a bag of marijuana. He says they smelled the marijuana and then allegedly passed Brown two boxes of cigarillos.
Brown started to walk towards the exit but turned around and handed his items back to the employees to hold.
“Mike did not rob the store,” Pollock said.
“It was a misunderstanding,” Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, said in the documentary.
Now the lawyer for the convenience store told The New Times that his visit in the video has nothing to do with his laster visit.
“There was no transaction,” Jay Kanzler told The Times. “There was no understanding. No agreement. Those folks didn’t sell him cigarillos for pot. The reason he gave it back is he was walking out the door with unpaid merchandise and they wanted it back.”
