Karmelo Anthony Found Guilty For Fatal Stabbing Of Austin Metcalf
According to CBS News, an all-white jury convicted Karmelo Anthony of first-degree murder on Tuesday, June 9. Per the outlet, prosecutors alleged Anthony deliberately stabbed Metcalf on April 2, 2025. Furthermore, this when they were at a high school track meet. In turn, defense lawyers argued that Anthony stabbed Metcalf in self-defense.
Per the outlet, the jury deliberated for three hours after hearing several days’ worth of testimony from eye witnesses, medical experts, and “character witnesses.”
Per the New York Post, Austin Metcalf’s father, Jeff, scolded Anthony while sharing his victim impact statement. This, reportedly, after the verdict was given.
“We were robbed! Don’t look down!” Jeff Metcalf reportedly told Anthony. “My boys weren’t bullies. My son’s death destroyed the person I used to be. He does not exist anymore. People think grief is sadness; it is not. It is rage. Pure unfiltered rage. You failed your parents, you failed yourself, and you failed society… You don’t belong in this community. A piece of me died with my son, and I’m expected to keep living. You’re going to prison. I forgave you the day it happened. I don’t forgive what you did. You can’t look me in the eyes, but you can stab my f**king son!”
Additionally, Jeff Metcalf reportedly noted that the case was “never about race.” But about “right and wrong.”
“The public’s response sickens me… The moral decay is frightening,” he reportedly told the court.
