Let’s get into this #BlackGirlMagic for a second, Roommates! Y’all know we are here for everything positive when it comes to you,  our #Roommates–especially when it comes to those academics! N’Nasseri Carew-Johnson caught our attention when she posted a picture of her graduation gown draped in honors cords, captioned, “The only chains on my neck that matter..”

We needed to know more about N’Nasseri’s accomplishments and she made sure to run those receipts!

N’Nasseri just graduated from Westlake High School and is on her way to “THE Stanford University in California–on scholarship, where she will be double majoring in Economics with a concentration in entrepreneurship, and Theatre.

“I have 17 cords, a magnet medallion, Principal Award, National Honor Society, Beta pins, and honors pins.” she told us. “Cords are only received if you’ve been in a club for two or more years. To name a few, SkillsUSA where I served as President for two years, Student Government where I was Class President EACH of my 4 years in high school, HOSA, 21st Century Leaders, Non-Stop Leadership Group, National Honor Society, Drama Club, & Strength Over Society (my organization).”

Aside from her 17 cords and Magnet Medallion, N’Nasseri tells us during her time in high school she was selected for The Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine. “I went on to be the 2016 Disney Dreamer of the year. My spoken word piece “The American Dream” was even broadcasted at Disney.”
She’s far from being done bragging about her accomplishments!
“I created and founded two organizations (Strength Over Society and Friends’ Birth Connection) and one product line (Creez Creation). SOS is an organization dedicated for giving youth space to speak on various social issues. We have members in three states and are hoping to launch at another school this fall. Friends’ Birth Connection, I founded to connect kids with other children in shelters, to gift them on their corresponding birthday.”

She says that instead of celebrating her 18th birthday the traditional way, she “launched a big birthday celebration to launch Friends’ Birth Connection: Ghana,” which she describes as “a party for 250 orphans at an orphanage in Ghana, West Africa” her program operates.
“I will be traveling back to Ghana this summer to do a summer camp for the 250 orphans!

Outside of school, N’Nasseri says she’s racked up a nice amount of awards.
“I’ve received one of Georgia’s 20 under 20 youth awards, United States Army Future Leaders from the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, Women of Impact from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and Regal Award from the Douglas-Carroll-Spaulding chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, jus to name a few!”
We all know you cant receive without giving; N’Nasseri has traveled to over 10 countries doing service work with organizations like Girls Going Global, and on behalf of her organization.
So here we have a young, black, educated, intelligent, beautiful, selfless, and clearly determined young women defying the stereotype by just being herself!
“I describe myself as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and dreamer, as all of my service and career work involves giving back to others and advocating for equality. At every event I speak at I always say try to instill this: “you cannot be powerful, you cannot be impactful, and you cannot be happy living in a dream that is not destined to be yours!”
Congratulations, N’Nasseri! We wish you nothing but success on your journey!
