NFL Reportedly Not Punishing Philadelphia Eagles Hurts Played With Blood Clots
Jalen Hurts was allowed to play football for the Philadelphia Eagles with a blood clot, but the NFL will reportedly not punish the team over the matter, according to The Athletic. Hurts was first diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis in his calf while in London. Despite the diagnosis, he was cleared by the team’s doctors to play, and the blood clots moved into both of Hurts’ lungs.
The NFL is apparently not punishing the team and says Hurts’ medical issue “was handled appropriately,” according to The Athletic. In addition, a source reportedly told the outlet the NFL found that the team did not violate the league’s injury report policy. Hurts was put on the injury report the Friday before the game, but he was not issued an injury designation — not even after the initial blood clot was found.

Furthermore, NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allan Sills says the speculation that NFL doctors would put a player in harm’s way is “nonsense.”
“The notion that there’s external factors that any of our physicians would put a player in harm’s way, that’s nonsense,” he claimed. “If you’re not sitting in that room with that patient, and you don’t have all the data, if you are speculating as a physician what should have been done, you are unprofessional and unethical in doing that.”

Jalen Hurts Out For Rest Of Season
As reported by The Shade Room, Hurts was placed on the injured reserve list after doctors found multiple blood clots in both of his lungs. The quarterback was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, and his agent, Nicole Lynn, shared the news on X.
“The current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis,” wrote Lynn. “As well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations… Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery… We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”
Hurts is currently undergoing treatment for the blood clots and is on blood thinners, and the NFL Players Association is calling for an investigation, according to a statement obtained by ABC News.
“Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred,” reads the statement. “Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.”
