Were They Hating On Little Nevada?
ICYMI, Nevada recently went viral after police responded to a dispute at a youth soccer game in Winter Park, Florida, on October 24. Initial reports suggested some parents were upset over the toddler’s advanced soccer skills. They also allegedly took issue with him not passing the ball enough. However, i9 Sports disputed that account in a statement to ESPN. The organization said police were called over a disagreement involving adults, rather than complaints about Nevada’s performance. i9Sports also clarified that no one was arrested or removed from the park. However, the adults involved were later asked not to return to the program.
Nevada Pierre Gets Major Support As GoFundMe Grows
Meanwhile, the attention surrounding Nevada has sparked an outpouring of support for his family, whose GoFundMe has reportedly raised more than $42,000. Former U.S. men’s national team player Eddie Johnson has also offered to train the toddler at his EJE7 Soccer Academy in Orlando. Johnson previously shared that Nevada’s family reached out when he was just 2 years old, but he recommended youth league competition because the child was too young for the academy at the time.
Johnson also weighed in on the controversy in an Instagram post. He said Nevada’s situation has brought attention to issues he believes still exist in youth soccer. He even listed jealousy, gatekeeping, nepotism, and profiling. With a potential trip to Spain on the horizon, support continues to pour in for the young soccer phenom. His story is now drawing attention far beyond the Florida field where it all began.
