In early September, Raven Baxter, her wife Miranda Maday and Kalen Allen caught internet heat over a discussion about the show, ‘That’s So Raven.’ Allen had appeared as a guest on the couple’s podcast in April 2026. Months later, in late August, one clip of Raven and Miranda appearing to question Raven Baxter’s Blackness went viral. Now, both women are spinning the block back to the conversation. This time, though, they’ve included Raven’s former co-star, Kyle Massey, who played Cory Baxter. And fellow Disney Channel OG didn’t hold back on addressing Raven-Symoné’s previous wording!

What Did Raven-Symoné Previously Say About Raven Baxter?
As mentioned, the viral clip of Raven-Symoné, her wife and Kalen Allen was just about 39 seconds long. In it, Raven discusses how Blackness can “look so many different way,” which prompted Allen to say that “Raven Baxter was so f**king Black.” Instantly, Symoné and Miranda Maday, who claims she didn’t watch the show until adulthood, pushed back. Rae asked whether her Baxter character was Black and Allen insisted that she felt Black to him. Rae then challenged him to look beyond “color” by taking it out of the equation and making the family “green.” Listening to the script on the show, Raven and Miranda, at that point, tried to explain the writers’ room didn’t fully represent Blackness. The show script was “headed by white men,” Rae confirmed. See the viral clipped video below.

Kyle Massey Addresses Raven’s Wording
In a recent episode of Raven-Symoné and Miranda’s podcast, the conversation about ‘That’s So Raven’ being a “Black show” took center stage again. And the ladies even brought the topic to life by transforming into each other via costume for the episode. Miranda, for example, was dressed as Raven Baxter, but painted her skin green. Meanwhile, Raven appeared to be dressed as a white woman, possibly her wife — wearing a tan bucket hat, a black long sleeve top, pants and a long blonde wig.
In the video clipped by The Shade Room, Miranda explains Raven’s previous “green” color comment. “What Raven was actually saying in that moment, the show is really universal. It transcends. So many different people come up to Raven, Raven is a generational figure,” Maday said.
As said, Kyle Massey was present this time around. And as a former main character from ‘That’s So Raven’ (Cory Baxter) and a related spin-off, ‘Cory In The House,’ Massey didn’t hold back on where he stands on the series’ Blackness. He agreed with Miranda about seeing the mix of people, age, culture and race, that come up to the Disney icon. Rae then asked whether Kyle understood what she said in her controversial April podcast episode. He immediately said “no,” joking that no one understood and mocking Miranda when she said, “Just listen to the words.”
“I do understand what’s the point that was trying to be made…,” Kyle Massey said, before Rae interrupted to ask what her point was. Massey continued, explaining that Kalen Allen was giving her a compliment by calling her Disney character super Black. Rae affirmed that she took it as a compliment. Massey pushed back, saying that’s not how the public interpreted what she said. Again, he emphasized that Allen was attempting to give Symoné her props.
“He wasn’t saying you was Wesley Snipes n*gga. He was saying your Blackness empowered his Blackness. And for you to discredit the Blackness…and I understand that you weren’t…for people to interpret it that way, it’s easy for them to run that way.”
Raven-Symoné Clarifies What She Meant By “Green” Comment
In response to what Kyle Massey explained, Rae clarified that she’s aware her Disney show featured a Black family and that her character was Black.
“I stand on the pillar that I was the first Black female to have a show with her name in the title. I’ve said that my entire life. I didn’t say I was the first green female to have the name in the title. I never said that, I know that we were Black obviously.”
She further explained that her and Miranda’s podcast is a platform about “thinking.” Her intent behind her April comments was to start a conversation about ‘That’s So Raven’ being universal.
“You had people from every country watching a Black family, but they saw themselves in that family, which means we were universal. There are some shows that I look at, I don’t see myself in the character because the cultural aspect of it is so minuscule that it’s not universal.”
