#Roommates, first of all — Yassss love birds! According to recent reports Millennials are causing the divorce rate in the Unites States to drastically decrease.
According to new analysis from the #USCensus, the divorce rate in America has plummeted to 18% from 2008 to 2016. It seems because people are waiting a little longer to jump the broom, marriages are lasting. Reports are also suggesting other contributing factors for generation X and millennials are that they are waiting to get married after their careers and finances are stable before making the lifelong commitment.
EVEN MORE interesting, a sociology professor at the #UniversityOfMaryland named #PhillipCohen researched this analysis and is specifically crediting women for the decline in divorce. He hypothesizes that women are more likely to get married for the first time after the age of 25, and are more likely to earn a Bachelor’s degree or higher by then. Cohen is predicting because of those types of factors, young women today “will have lower divorce rates than today’s older women.”
Cohen sums up his finds with this: “Marriage is more and more an achievement of status, rather than something that people do regardless of how they’re doing.” When you think of marriage like that, I can definitely see where the esteem comes from. #Roommates, you know we love LOVE at The Shade Room, and we hope reports like this give you a different perspective.
