I’ve heard of wedding crashing but a Georgia man who is wanted for stealing the “free” breakfast that hotels offer to their guests is on a new level of scheming.
Police in #Dalton, Georgia, are looking for the man who hit up a group of hotels earlier this month, stealing free food from the breakfast bars. Police also said the man has gotten away with plastic silverware, shampoo and towels, according to @wrcbtv.
Police say the bold ways he’s entering hotel rooms has them concerned. In one of the instances, the suspect walked into a #HolidayInnExpress and just started helping himself to breakfast.
“I think he knew. This hotel is known for its breakfast,” said Cecy Lagunas, front office manager at the Holiday Inn Express.
Lagunas said something did not seem right about the man, adding that he walked in with books, started eating from the breakfast bar, and then wandered the halls. She was prompted to get her general manager involved.
She approached the man who told her he was “just checking how easy it is to get into hotels and get free stuff.” When the general manager told him to leave, he did.
“If nothing else, it should tell you the clerks are paying attention to who is coming in, who is going, they have good systems for security. They’re able to watch these videos and tell that somebody just doesn’t look right and that they were willing to call us and let us know,” said Assistant Chief Chris Crossen of the Dalton Police Department said.
The next day, police said the same man snuck into one of the rooms that was being cleaned at a Quality Inn. He was there for about an hour before hotel employees approached him.
“He knows it’s wrong because of his comments to the clerks, but he’s really throwing that out the window,” Crossen said.
Officers said the man was bold enough to hit another hotel the following day, this time at a Super 8 where he told the clerk he left his cell phone in a room and asked to get in to get it back. They told him they would call the police and no one has seen him since then.
Hotel employees told police they believe the man was involved in several other thefts at area hotels. Police say he was last seen driving a black Nissan Altima.
