Attention all Lambs, this one’s for you! We all know that Mariah Carey’s ridiculously popular Christmas classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” is just as in demand now as it was 25 years ago when it was released. However, despite the song breaking endless music chart and Guinness records, it never reached number on Billboard…until now.
This year is the 25th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s ultimate Christmas anthem, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”—and the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas has a new reason to celebrate the song. As of this week, it’s officially (and finally) the number one song in the country, topping the current Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s the first Christmas song to reach the top of the charts since “The Chipmunk Song” back in 1958.
This also marks Mariah’s 19th number one song, which now means that she is just one song away from breaking The Beatles overall record of 20 number ones. Mariah tops the Hot 100 for the first time since April 19, 2008, when her 18th number one, “Touch My Body,” spent its second of two weeks on top.
Upon its initial release on Mariah’s 1994 album “Merry Christmas,” “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was not a commercially-available single and due to the rules at the time, it was not eligible to chart on the Hot 100, even though it did reach number 12 on the Radio Songs chart that year. In December 1998, when album cuts became eligible for the Hot 100, the song entered the chart for the first time on January 8, 2000, spending a week at number 83.
