During the first Democratic debate, between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, the former Vice-President stunned the country, when he announced that a woman will be his Vice-President running mate.
Biden stated:
Secondly, if I’m elected President, my cabinet, administration would look like the country. I commit that I will in fact pick a woman to be Vice President.
He continued:
There are a number of women who are qualified to be President tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my Vice President.
In response, Bernie Sanders also said he would pick a woman.
He stated:
For me, it’s not just nominating a woman,. It is making sure that we have a progressive woman, and there are progressive women out there, so my very strong tendency is to move in that direction.
The two also obviously discussed the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and healthcare, as more than 3,000 people have been infected and 65 have died, according to NBC News.
There was also an update on how they are taking precaution from the virus. Both men insisted they are no longer having rallies and their staff are all working-from-home.
At the moment, Joe Biden leads the polls with over 100 delegates, when compared to the Vermont senator. With four more states voting Tuesday, only time will tell if this debate sways anyone’s decision.
As always, the African-American vote is a key component for both candidates. With many of Sanders’ supporters being Black, Joe Biden still holds more of the Black vote, according to the NY Times.
