Roommates Comedian and Co-Host of ‘The Talk’, Sheryl Underwood has broken her silence and spoke out about her tense conversation with Sharon Osbourne earlier this week. On the show, the women discussed the recent actions of Piers Morgan, and Sharon spoke out in his defense following his recent comments about Meghan Markle. Sheryl addressed the situation on Friday on The Steve Harvey Morning Show. Steve asked her how she reacted to the situation. She said, “I think this is about discipline, restraint, and being a better me.” Sheryl continued explaining that people of color go through this every day, but it’s not caught on camera. As the conversation continued Sheryl said that she was receiving an outpour of support from many people.
“I got calls from all over the world from people that I was wondering, ‘How did you find me? How do you know me?’ I was getting prayers, I was getting love.” She added, “And I want people to know this, I believe that God was telling me, ‘I have a plan for you. I am about to pour down a blessing upon you. I just need to know, are you ready because you will face this again?’ I just wanted to be a better example for people that are working just a regular old job, that had to compose themselves.”
Many were surprised with Sharon’s actions even Sheryl. She also told Steve that she didn’t think that their conversation would’ve turned so heated. “I thought we were having a conversation like we normally do. But then I got a feeling that wait a minute, this ain’t what it usually is,” she explained. Black women are usually stereotyped as being angry when they speak out so many Roommates commended Sheryl on taking the high road and keeping her composure. One commented, “She’s right because if Sheryl had done what needed to be done, she would have been the “angry black woman”. She stayed calm and collected and let Sharon destroy herself.”
It was announced on Friday, that CBS released an official statement following the incident. The statement said, “We are committed to a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace. All matters related to the Wednesday episode of ‘The Talk’ are currently under internal review.”
