According to @pagesix, one of #RKelly’s associates, Michael Williams, has admitted to setting Azriel Clary’s vehicle on fire.
The 38-year-old pled guilty to one count of arson for destroying the vehicle that was located in Kissimmee, Florida, and rented Azriel’s father.
In exchange for the plea deal, prosecutors dropped the witness tampering charge. Michael Williams still faces up to 71 months in prison.
“The plea agreement is fair in that the witness tampering charge as it relates to R. Kelly will be dismissed at sentencing,” said defense lawyer Todd Spodek.
After the car was set on fire, a witness saw “an individual fleeing from the scene whose arm appeared to be lit on fire,” @pagesix reports.
Michael Williams was also seen traveling from Georgia to Florida before the crime and later returning.
Michael Williams was charged along with Donnell Arline and both were accused of attempting to keep R. Kelly’s alleged accusers silenced. Arline pled guilty in February.
Most recently, the AP reported that a federal judge has approved R. Kelly to be moved from Chicago to New York City for his trial.
R.Kelly’s legal team will be fighting for his freedom in a Brooklyn federal court on August 9th. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly decided on a virtual hearing and suggested that the government make plans to move R. Kelly to a New York jail, most likely the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. However, she didn’t put a time stamp on when the move should take place.
One of R.Kelly’s attorneys, Steve Greenberg, did speak out with the announcement. He said that R.Kelly is looking forward to the trial.
