Last week, we all learned that Mariah Carey and her billionaire fiancé, James Packer, had reportedly split up. Reports were claiming that the relationship’s demise came after the two had a fight while vacationing in Greece last month. Apparently, Packer didn’t like Carey’s alleged excessive spending, but a rep for the singer tells Entertainment Tonight that the only part of these reports that is true is that a fight did happen in Greece. They also reveal that the couple has been separated ever since.
“The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah,” the rep said, also noting that Packer is “one of the most successful businessmen in the world.” Plus, Mariah is worth over a half a billion dollars, so having fights about being more frugal seems irrelevant to them. Anyway, the rep added that “They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together.” The rep says that the couple will give a joint statement on their relationship once they’ve decided on its course. On the flip side, Packer’s reps say that this story is “simply untrue” and that’s pretty much all they had to say about that! The shaaade!
These breakup rumors have come at such an awkward time, because Mariah Carey’s reality show is about to premiere on E! in December. She told ET back in June that her goal was to be married by the end of the year, but now that the wedding is in limbo, does this jeopardize how viewers will respond to whatever wedding footage pops up in the show? Regardless of what happens, we hope that these two can pull through. After all, Mariah was wearing her engagement ring to her Halloween party last weekend.
