ABC Casts Matt James As Its First Black Bachelor

Roommates, times are changing, and our people are finally getting the recognition we always deserved, and that even comes down to “The Bachelor.”

Matt James is making history as he has now become the first black bachelor to be featured on the hit ABC series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 28-year-old real entrepreneur, estate broker, and community organization founder will be the lead in the upcoming 25th season.

Many people have been applying that pressure and calling “The Bachelor,” out for their lack of diversity, and it looks like they were finally listening. Matt was originally cast to appear in the upcoming Clare Crawley season of “The Bachelorette,” and for those who are familiar with the show, he is also known as the business partner and best friend of Tyler Cameron.

Karey Burke, the ABC Entertainment President said, “Matt has been on our radar since February, when producers first approached him to join Bachelor Nation, as part of Clare’s season. When filming couldn’t move forward as planned, we were given the benefit of time to get to know Matt and all agreed he would make a perfect Bachelor. We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we’re seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in and we are proudly in service to our audience. This is just the beginning and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him.”

One of the many voices to criticize the franchise for their lack of diversity was Rachel Lindsay, who was the first black bachelorette. Prior to the announcement, she had been the only black lead in the franchise’s history
