Actress Jo Marie Payton Shares What It Would Take For Her To Consider Participating In A ‘Family Matters’ Reboot

There is doubt that the classic 90s sitcom “Family Matters,” was a staple in many households. Recently, some of the cast members reunited as they attended 90s Con last weekend.

Of the cast, Kellie Shanygne Williams, Reginald Vel Johnson, Jo Marie Payton, and Darius McCrary reunited at the convention that paid homage to some of the classic shows that dominated television during the 90s. While on stage, Jo Marie Payton shared that it would take for Jaimee Foxworth, who played Judy Winslow, rejoining the cast, for her to consider being a part of a reboot for “Family Matters.”

Jo said, “And while it’s on that subject of Judy, Jaimee Foxworth and all, don’t think for a minute that we did not go in. I was personally very hurt by that, and when I mentioned it to the producers. I said you guys need to tell me something that’s not only creative but politically correct in order to straighten out this situation because there’s nowhere in the world, a family, you gave me three kids, you took away my baby.”

For those who aren’t familiar with the show, for years Jaimee’s exit from the show was always questioned, because in her final scene on the show she was seen walking upstairs, and that was all. For years, fans spoke about how she went upstairs and never came back down. Her final episode was during the show’s fourth season. “Family Matters,” went on for an additional five seasons after her departure.

Jo continued to explain that production could have taken away her eldest child on the show, there could have been more explainable plots to tell audiences. She also stated that when she asked why Jaimee’s character was removed from the show, she was told: “nobody would notice.”

“So for me, that’s one of the other things that I’m not excited about going back into it because if I do, the very first episode has to be that she comes down those stairs”, said Jo.
