It has been announced that American Idol will be airing its 15th and final season in January, 2016. Although it was one of the most successful shows in the history of television, all good things come to an end.
Nigel Lythgoe, American Idol executive places some of the shows termination on Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. The two served as judges back in 2012. He told Billboard that is something he probably shouldn’t have done.
“Mariah and Nicki was just crazy, and then it really started becoming about the judges and took away from the contestants altogether. I think that was a major failing on the part of casting to have those two together. On their own, either one may have been successful.”
His statement stems mostly from the on-camera feud the two had during the season.
Regardless of whether or not Nicki and Mariah played a role in the show’s demise, American Idol had 15 great seasons and is responsible for artists like Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, and many more.
Sad to see you go, Idol.
