Former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire has been charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly hitting one of his teenage daughters in the face, authorities say.
The 15-year league veteran was arrested early Sunday after striking one of his two teenage daughters during an argument at his Miami home Saturday night, according to a copy of the police report obtained by The Miami Herald.
The report did not reveal which of the two daughters, ages 14 and 17, was hit.
Stoudemire Arrested For Battery On Teen Daughter, Released On Bond And Issued No-Contact Order
Stoudemire, 40, was later released on $1,500 bond and issued a no-contact order. He reportedly confronted one of his daughters and accused her of being disrespectful during a phone call with his mother.
After she denied it, he told her, “you’re talking back again,” and proceeded to punch her in the jaw, the report states. The hit allegedly left her bleeding from the face.
She then contacted her mother – Stoudemire’s ex-wife – who came and picked up the two girls as well as their two brothers, before calling police.

When officers responded to Stoudemire’s home, he reportedly told them his daughter “was sad because she received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar.”
He then quickly invoked his right to remain silent, according to the Herald.
Stoudemire Responds To Arrest & Accusations On Social Media, Denies Assaulting Daughter
Stoudemire responded to the charges and allegations on social media Sunday night, and denied assaulting his daughter.
“I could never see myself assaulting any person, especially my children,” Stoudemire wrote. “I respect, protect, and love my family, particularly my children. As a father, I ask for your grace as we secure our space and privacy.”
No attorney for Stoudemire is listed in court records as of Monday.

Meanwhile, his Instagram page shows he received his master’s degree from the University of Miami earlier Saturday, just hours before the alleged assault.
Stoudemire’s NBA Career Highlights, Conversion To Judaism And Israeli Citizenship
During his NBA career, Stoudemire averaged 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
He won Rookie of the Year award after the 2002-2003 season with the Phoenix Suns, where he played for eight seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks, where he played for five years.
He retired in 2017 after finishing his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat before playing in Israel. In March 2019, he received Israeli citizenship, and adopted the name Yahoshafat Ben Avraham.
He formally converted to Judaism with a Rabbinical court on August 26, 2020, according to the Times of Israel.
