Amazon Is Selling 30-Cent Gas To Promote Its Show ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ For The Emmys

Listen, if you don’t watch Amazon’s “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or haven’t even heard of the show, you certainly will tuh-day.

The Emmy-nominated series is going hard to secure that win with its huge promo campaign, Maisel Day, that took the people of #LosAngeles back to the 1950s. A bunch of LA businesses are offering 1950s prices today including 30-cent gas and $40 hotel rooms!

Yes, you are reading that right. In fact, if you really work the deals, you can get a deli sandwich, a movie ticket and a full makeover for less than $5, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Needless to say, these promotions were already causing chaos in the streets of LA because so many people were trying to get those deals. Police reportedly had to temporarily shut down the Chevron gas station selling the super cheap gas because of all the traffic it was causing.

Commuters took to Twitter to vent about the traffic on the 10 Freeway due to the nearby gas station, and multiple news outlets reported that the gas promotion was shut down.

Alana Russo, a rep for Amazon Prime Video, tells The Times that police are counting the number of cars to ensure there aren’t too many in line before they bring more cars in.

Amazon is also working with police to make sure that the traffic “doesn’t get out of hand,” according to Russo.

Thursday’s promotion involves nearly 30 Los Angeles businesses from salons to restaurants slashing prices.

“When it comes to Emmy campaigns, you have to look at how you address voters in phase two, and so I think we know that so many of the Academy voters live and work in and around Los Angeles,” said Amazon’s director of awards Debra Birnbaum. “So whereas we can’t talk directly to them with this, I think the intention of an event like this is, of course, going to sweep up the TV Academy voters, and they’ll definitely get their notice.”

The only thing that would make this day complete is paying 1950s rent. Roommates, what things would you like to pay 1950s prices for? Let us know!
