Angela Yee Will Leave 'The Breakfast Club' This Year To Host Daily Show

Angela Yee Says Bye To ‘The Breakfast Club’ To Host Her Own Daily Show Later This Year

Angela Yee is saying bye-bye to The Breakfast Club. That’s the tea behind the cryptic tweet she posted on Tuesday saying, “The Breakfast Club as you know it is officially over.”  The tweet had the internet stirring with opinions about what might be next for one of the most beloved radio shows in the game. Well, on Wednesday, Angela cleared the air and revealed she’ll be moving on to her own show.

“I am going to be leaving The Breakfast Club,” Angela said. “You guys [DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God] obviously will continue on and it’ll be a different iteration of The Breakfast Club, but I will have my own show up here at iHeart as well so I’ll be part of the family.”

Before Yee planted roots with The Breakfast Club, she hosted The Morning After with Angela Yee on Sirius XM. So, the radio personality said, it was always her goal to go back to solo hosting. Even prior to the pandemic, Angela initiated these conversations with upper-level executives at iHeart radio. Well, the execs finally granted her the request.

At first, Angela imagined the show would be on the weekends while still hosting TBC. Instead, the radio network gave her a nationally syndicated, daily show named Way Up with Angela Yee. The show will take on some of what she already does, including interviews, rumor reports, and Ask Yee segments. In her words, Angela will be “curating [her] own lituation.”

Just before she made the announcement on-air, Angela, with the help of DJ Envy, continued to tease fans. DJ Envy posted a clip showing his operational work badge as he pretended to be shocked that it worked. Angela hopped in the comment section and wrote, “for now.”

Angela Yee Expresses Excitement For The Longtime-Coming Moment

While speaking about the opportunity, Angela didn’t hold back her excitement or thankfulness.

“It is really exciting,” Angela said. “I mean I honestly can’t believe it. I know it took a long time to make this happen so I want to thank everybody at iHeart.” She added, “I really want to thank, first and foremost, the listeners who are part of our Breakfast Club family. We’ve been doing this for 12 years now and so this is just a tremendous opportunity.”

For now, it’s unclear when Angela will be leaving TBC team. However, she knows it’ll happen at some point this fall. She will be sticking around until a replacement is found. Remy Ma’s name has been bubbling on the list as a contender–per social media chatter. Additionally, the show will air from New York as that is her home base. As if that’s not sweet enough, Angela’s popular podcast Lip Service, where she discusses all things sex with other hosts, will now be nationally syndicated as well.

“I feel extremely grateful, extremely blessed to be able to get something that is really monumental up here,” she said. “You know as far as having a nationally syndicated show and somebody in my position: a woman, a Black woman up here, I mean it’s a rarity. And it’s a great opportunity and it’s not something that I take lightly.”

In response to the news, folks on Twitter began sharing some of their favorite moments from the morning show. Swipe below for a kii and big congrats to Angela Yee!
