Aretha Franklin Awarded 2019 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation For Her Contributions To Music

It has been a few months since the passing of the legendary Aretha Franklin. Since her passing, the Queen of Soul has been honored in many different ways, and now there is another award to add to her long list of achievements.

According to USA Today, on Monday it was announced that Aretha has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation. The posthumous honor was announced at the 2019 Pulitzer Prizes for Arts, Drama, and Music. Aretha was named as a winner for “her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.”

As many of you know Aretha has broken many barriers throughout her legendary career, including being the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She has won a total of 18 Grammy Awards throughout her career and has been known as one of the best selling acts with more than 75 million records sold worldwide.

She has earned multiple honorary degrees and has also been honored with the National Medal of Arts and the Presidental Medal of Freedom.

Unfortunately, she passed away in August of 2018 after battling pancreatic cancer. Many tributes were held throughout the world to honor the Queen of Soul.
