Roomies, Ashanti shocked Nelly with a heartwarming surprise at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
According to PEOPLE, the 2025 iHeart Radio Music Awards went down on Monday, March 17. During the award show, Nelly received the Landmark Award. Per the outlet, it honors “artists whose album releases have inspired and shaped culture over multiple decades.”
Although Nelly was aware of receiving the accolade before arriving at the event, he didn’t appear to know that someone special would be presenting it to him.
“Okay, so he did not know that I was coming up here he thought I just went to use the bathroom,” the singer told the crowd and her husband as he looked on, gushing with a smile.
In her speech, Ashanti credited her husband for “changing the game forever” and putting the Midwest “on the map” in the rap game.

Before taking the stage, Ashanti and Nelly popped out on iHeart’s red carpet. In an interview with Access Hollywood, the parents gushed over their baby boy, Kareem. Additionally, they even shared that he recently hit a few major milestones.
“Clapping, crawling his first words were, ‘Hey,'” Ashanti revealed.
Before the interview concluded, Nelly credited Ashanti for being an “amazing mom.”
“…It is beautiful, man her energy. You can just feel the love that she brings I’m just thankful I can help,” Nelly joked

Before appearing on the iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet alongside her husband, Ashanti made headlines following an appearance on the ‘IRL’ podcast. As The Shade Room previously reported, in February, a new episode of Angie Martinez’s podcast was released via YouTube. About 38 minutes into the sitdown, Ashanti revealed that Irv Gotti’s death was “unexpected” and “a lot to process.”
Furthermore, while speaking about his passing, the singer opened up about the state of their relationship and if she believes they could’ve made amends.
