Ashanti is opening up more about Irv Gotti‘s recent passing, the state of their relationship, and whether she believes they could have reconciled.

Ashanti Opens Up More About The Recent Passing Of Irv Gotti
On Friday, February 28, a new episode of Angie Martinez’s podcast, ‘IRL,’ was released via YouTube, featuring Ashanti as a guest. About thirty-eight minutes into the pair’s sitdown, Martinez brought up the “elephant in the room,” referring to Gotti’s recent passing. Ultimately, Martinez asked Ashanti how she’s been “processing” the Murder Inc. founder’s sudden death.
“Definitely unexpected — it was a lot to process,” Ashanti said. “It was a lot of different feelings and emotions, you know… and I think honestly, what I said is how I feel… I was really sad, and I’m still sad it ended like this because there was a time when things were like amazing.
As she continued, Ashanti explained that in her “heart,” she always “wanted peace” for her and Gotti.
“I wished peace for him, I prayed for him to be at peace, and you just — you don’t really see this coming, you know what I mean? It really just came out of nowhere.” Ashanti said.
The Singer Speaks On Their Relationship & If They Could Have Reconciled
As the conversation continued, Ashanti reflected on the ups and downs of her and Gotti’s relationship while sharing whether she believed they could’ve reconciled.
“I really wanted it to happen,” Ashanti said. “… Like I said, we made history together so that is infinite… and I’m sad that the last few years we weren’t seeing eye to eye. [But] what I do know is that I tried. I do know that I extended the olive branch… I just wanted things to be cool!”
Furthermore, Ashanti reflected on when things were really “bad” in her relationship with Gotti. Despite this, she said she always spoke highly about him because she “will always be thankful” for what he did for her career.

To note, in 2021, with the release of ‘The Murder Inc. Story,’ Gotti revealed he and the singer had been intimate while working together in the early 2000s.

In October 2022, the singer then made headlines after accusing Gotti of lying about details tied to their relationship. Additionally, the ‘Baby’ singer called Gotti a narcissist, per The Shade Room.
Then, on Wednesday, February 5, Gotti passed away at the age of 54. The singer reacted to the news online with a short message, paying tribute to his “musical genius” and her wish for him to find peace.
