By now you all know that tensions have been rising in Georgia as the number of coronavirus cases has started to rise again. That of course led Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to issue a mandate when it came to wearing face masks.
However, as we previously reported, Georgia Governor, Brain Kemp, issued a lawsuit against Mayor Bottoms and the city council for making the mask-wearing mandatory.
During a discussion with CBS This Morning, Mayor Bottoms talked about the lawsuit and the patterns that have come about in Governor Kemp’s actions. She said, “To be sued based upon issuing voluntary advisory recommendations really is just a waste of taxpayer money in our state. I think a better use of taxpayer money would be to expand testing and contact tracing in our state, and not to waste it on suing me personally and our Atlanta City Council personally simply because we’re trying to save lives in our city.”

As we previously reported, as the mayors start to enforce more strict rules Governor Kemp actually decided to sue Mayor Bottoms and the city council and said, “This lawsuit is on behalf of the Atlanta business owners and their hardworking employees who are struggling to survive during these difficult time. These men and women are doing their very best to put food on the table for their families while local elected officials shutter businesses and undermine economic growth.”
Mayor Bottoms pointed out that Savannah enforced a city-wide mandate first, followed by Athens, and she followed behind those two cities. However, it wasn’t until Donald Trump landed at Atlanta’s airport and didn’t follow the city’s order that Kemp filed the lawsuit.
Bottoms, who has also tested positive for the virus, said, “It is very clear that the governor is putting politics over people.”
