Billy Porter Denies That There Is An Issue Between Him And RuPaul After Social Media Interprets His Facial Expression During RuPaul’s Emmys Moment As Shade

Last night Billy Porter made history, as he became the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Prior to his big win, Billy quickly became a meme on social media as the camera’s caught his facial expression in the audience during RuPaul’s win for Reality-Competition Program. Some people thought there was an issue between the two of them based on his expression, but Billy quickly killed those rumors.

According to Variety, while backstage Billy denied there was an issue between him and RuPaul and said, “RuPaul is a friend of mine. I am so proud of him. I stand on his shoulders. He is doing it. He paved the way for me. There’s never a side-eye about that.”

He continued, “There’s never a side-eye coming from me. There’s never anything negative coming from me. It’s all love, it’s all light, it’s all positivity. Don’t come to me with that mess. Ever, ever, ever.”

Billy continued, expressed his excitement for his big win. “I’m so grateful that I lived long enough to see the day I could stand up in front of the world as my true authentic self. I was told that who and what I am would never be successful — period. That’s what I was told. I did not believe them.”

For those who don’t know, Billy currently plays the role of Pray Tell on FX’s hit series “Pose.” The show recently wrapped up its second season and was renewed for a third season shortly after their season two premiere.
