Black Excellence: Martin Lawrence Receives Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame!

Martin Lawrence was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The comedian was surrounded by family and friends, including Steve Harvey, Tichina Arnold, Tracy Morgan, and Lynn Whitfield.

Lawrence reflected on the honor and talked about being inspired by Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy.

“I’m truly honored… I feel so blessed, and I thank God for this honor and just recognition and my fans, and it’s something that I always wanted. Richard Pryor was my first introduction to wanting to be in the business, and I wanted to do this,” Martin told Extra. He added, “He inspired me, him and Eddie Murphy… Just following what they’ve done in their career has allowed me to push forward in mine, so I’m very grateful and thankful.”

“Wait till y’all see this one. Might even be bigger than all of them. You gotta check it out.”

The comedian had previously reacted to the news earlier this month in a YouTube video shared after the announcement.

“We did it, bruh! We did it! All the way from Landover, Washington D.C., all the way to Hollywood. We did it. Oh, man. God bless. God bless.”

Lawrence has entertained fans in comedy, film, and television for decades since starting in the late 1980s. The 57-year-old was launched to success as the titular star of the sitcom Martin before leaving for Hollywood and joining Will Smith in the long-running Bad Boys film franchise.

Since then, Lawrence has starred in a plethora of films, including pop culture hits like the Big Momma’s House and House Party films.

During the event, Martin even showed love to Jamie Foxx and expressed well wishes.

“I hear he’s doing better… My prayers go out for him every night, and just wishing the best for him, one of the best that we got in Hollywood.”

As of this week, Jamie Foxx remains hospitalized in Georgia, per CNN. His family hasn’t provided any updates outside of Corinne Foxx’s initial statement about the “medical complication” last week. The severity of Jamie’s condition is unknown, but the statement indicated that the actor is already recovering.
