Roommates can we get another round of applause for all of our black QUEENS that are out here killing it in the pageant world.
As many of you already know, last night, Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was crowned as the new Miss Universe. Now we have a total of four black queens that hold these titles all at the same time.
According to BBC, following her exciting win, Zozibini Tunzi said, “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful. I think that it is time that that stops today.”
Nia Franklin, who currently holds the title of Miss America was crowned back on September 9th,2018, Cheslie Kryst was crowned on May 2nd,2019, and Kaliegh Garris, who is currently Miss Teen USA was crowned on April 28th, 2019.
Following Cheslie’s win, all three ladies started to do press together as everyone celebrated the fact that Miss America, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA were all black women. Now we have another black queen to celebrate.
Following her win, Zozibini Tunzi took to social media to reflect on her big win and said, “Tonight a door was opened and I could not be more grateful to have been the one to have walked through it. May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine. I proudly state my name Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019!”
