After much debate and controversy, the U.S. Treasury Department is reportedly going to announce that Harriet Tubman will replace President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill! Yes you heard that right!!!
According to Politico, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is about to make some major announcements that will change the way Americans see money in the future. He reportedly told the political news outlet that they were making changes to answer to some of the critics.
Outside of the change to the $20 bill, changes to the $5 and $10 bills will also happen. On the back of new $10 bills will be leaders of the women’s suffrage movement and on the back of $5 will be leaders of the civil rights movement era.
Of course these changes come with criticism. Fans of Andrew Jackson have already taken to the internet to express their disgust and since the announcement is still early on, we expect for there to be more backlash.
There’s no word on when these changes will actually come into fruition but we’re happy to see steps being taken to be more inclusive. We also can’t wait to see how rappers include the new ‘Harriets’ in their songs! Roommates, are these changes a good move for the country?
