‘Black-ish’ Prequel Based On Tracee Ellis Ross’ Character Is Reportedly Being Eyed By ABC

It looks like another spinoff may be added to the “Black-ish” franchise. This time, it will be a prequel and focus on Tracee Ellis Ross’ character Rainbow.

According to Deadline, the current season of “Black-ish” will feature a Rainbow-centric episode, which is scheduled to film in March. The episode will feature flashbacks of the teen version of Tracee’s character.

No deals have been set as of yet, but it is rumored that the episode will serve as a pilot for a possible prequel series. “Black-ish” executive producer Peter Saji will write the episode, which will be set in the 1980s-1990s during Rainbow’s growing up.

If the episode does lead to a spinoff, “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris is expected to executive produce, but will probably not be involved with the daily creative process due to his deal commitment over at Netflix.

The “Black-ish” spinoff “Grown-ish” has proved to be a hit. Currently, in its second season, the show has already been renewed for a third season. As many of you know, the show focuses on Yara Shahidi’s character Zoey, who plays the eldest child to Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson’s characters.

Roommates, would you be here for a Black-ish prequel centered on Tracee Ellis Ross’ character?
