“Cobb District Attorney Joyette M. Holmes announces that she has accepted Attorney General Chris Carr’s appointment of her office to handle prosecution in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, and that the call to serve will not be taken lightly,” the press release stated.

It continued, “The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, with aggravated assault and murder in Arbery’s death.”

Ensuring that they will collect all necessary materials, they also ensured they will continue to seek new information related to this case. “Our office will immediately gather all materials related to the investigation thus far and continue to seek additional information to move this case forward,” DA Joyette Holmes said.

As the statement continues, the DA’s office also reiterated they are committed to the “process of seeking justice in this case.”

As you may recall, Ahmad Arbery was fatally shot by two white men—Gregory and Travis McMichael, while jogging back in February of this year.

It wasn’t until last week, after video of the incident surfaced, that the two were arrested and charged for the crime.
