#BlackGirlMagic: New Study Shows Black Single Moms Dominate Corporate America

#BlackGirlMagic is in full effect ya’ll! We know that black women can do anything they set their mind to and apparently that also includes killing it in the world of corporate America. A new study has revealed that black single moms dominate the arena with impressive growth.

Long gone are the days when being a single mother meant that your career choices were severely limited due to the responsibility of having to raise children alone. Now, a new study uncovers the statistics showing that black single moms are absolutely killing it in the corporate world. As reported by @Blavity, findings from the Current Population Survey and the 2018 Motherly State of Motherhood Survey reveal that many federal and state policies during the Obama presidency made it easier for single mothers to work.

What’s even more impressive is that while the number of single mothers in the workforce has grown by 4%, black single moms earning more than $75,000 annually skyrocketed by 106% between 2012 and 2017. The huge jump is also 30% higher than that of white single moms, as reported by author Christine Michel Carter in a previous issue of Forbes.

Additionally, black single moms have also secured higher income growth than all other single moms by 2%. The various beneficial policies created during the Obama administration are a huge reason why this is all possible, including the lack of black single moms’ reliance on federal assistance. The introduction of Obamacare also greatly helped them further succeed.

According to various studies, jobs in warehouses, nursing and gig economy jobs, are all increasingly becoming ways for them to provide for their children. The increased minimum wage has also helped tremendously. While black women were four times more likely to be single moms compared to other races, they were also revealed to be far more optimistic about tackling motherhood.

It’s great to have official data to back up what we already knew…black women are simply a gift.
