So as most of you hip-hop/rap guru’s may know, the king of the “Shmoney” dance is currently behind bars and has been for almost a year now. Acquire Pollard (a.k.a Bobby Shmurda) was raided by the police in New York back in December, 2014 and they even brought out a “Special Narcotics Prosecutor” in the process while charging him with possession of an armed weapon, assault, conspiracy, paraphernalia and other reckless charges.
Now that it is 2016, it is almost time for Pollard’s trial date in February, but allegations that were brought forward in court today may change the dynamics of the courtroom later on!
According to ‘Billboard,’ Pollard’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, is requesting some additional evidence from the “Special Narcotics Prosecutors'” office because of their lack of credibility to prove that Pollard is guilty for charges faced against him. Spiro points out specifically, two of the head leaders of the prosecution team based in Brooklyn are almost planning this based on previous cases they’ve worked on that carries inaccurate evidence and statements. Spiro even believes that they are violating their 4th Amendment rights.
Spiro’s allegations can in a way be compared to what the black community can relate to as “DWB” a.k.a “Driving while Black,” similarly because he explains that Pollard and the rest of his GS9 crew, who are also facing adjacent charges, were stopped and frisked multiple times for years after finding nothing on them. Spiro requested copies of every report filed on Pollard and his members just to prove a valid point.
One truth we know to this matter is that even though Pollard has a total of eight charges against him, one was dropped back on Dec. 8, 2013 when prosecutors suspected him with cocaine possession. Spiro explains that with their so-called conspiracy allegations on Pollard dealing with drugs, they have nothing more than just a recorded phone call of cellmates in Rikers Island talking about him in relation to drugs, but not the “Hot N*gga” himself!
“He’s a musical artist; a lot of people talk about him,” Spiro said. “That lack of evidence is itself evidence.”
Spiro also requested that Rikers Island, the jail facility where Pollard is located, gather all phone-recordings that the rapper himself held and from others that discussed anything illegal in relation to him.
“We deal in facts, not unspecified accusations against unnamed parties,” Kati Cornell, a spokesperson for the Special Narcotics Prosecutors office told Billboard . “It’s nothing we could possibly address.”
Pollard will face another hearing next week before his set trial date on February 22. The rapper is still under a bond worth $2 million, but he still has time to submit another bail application in the process!
