Breaking: One Person Reportedly Found Shot Dead Inside Trunk Of Car On JSU Campus Parking Lot, Coroner Says

A person was found dead at Jackson State University (JSU), with the Hinds County coroner being seen loading a body into her SUV from the trunk of a car located a parking lot on-campus, reported to be that of a young man who was shot to death, the coroner later revealed.

WLBT reporter C.J. LeMaster tweeted a photo of the scene as it unfolded Friday afternoon, and noted that “we do not know the cause/manner of death at this point.”

The image showed an area of the JSU parking lot cordoned off with yellow police tape, with the coroner truck in plain view.

Male Body Reportedly Found Shot To Death In Trunk Of Car Found On JSU Campus

One parent of a JSU student tweeted about the incident as well, saying her “daughter just called (her) and said they found a boy’s dead body in the trunk of another boy’s car on her college campus.”

The parent went on to say that a student was arrested, but there was no confirmation on that as of Friday afternoon. The victim has also yet to be identified by name, and it wasn’t immediately clear if the victim was a student at JSU.

 

“My daughter just called me and said they found a boy’s dead body in the trunk of another boy’s car on her college campus. The car was parked in front of her dorms. A young man has been arrested, but the students don’t have any info. This was at JSU.”

Meanwhile, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Jackson State University Campus Enforcement are investigating the death as a homicide on the school’s campus.

Coroner Confirms Victim Was A Male, As JSU Officials Issue Email Alert To Students Regarding Investigation

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart confirmed the victim was a male, according to WLBT.

Campus Police were called to the scene about 8:30 a.m., which was in a parking lot between Dixon Hall and Campbell College Suites

School police issued an email alert to students Friday morning, saying, “There is an ongoing investigation on campus and officials are on the scene in the Tiger World parking lot. There is no active threat and the campus remains open.”

JSU President Arrived On Scene Early Friday To Speak With Campus Police, No Further Details Available

JSU President Thomas K. Hudson was also on scene early Friday to speak with campus police, the outlet reports.

No further details are available about what happened at the moment.
