Roommates, the ongoing legal saga involving Britney Spears and her father just took another disappointing turn. A judge recently ruled that Britney Spears’ father will remain in the role of her conservator despite her request to have him removed—and the decision could see her absent from the stage permanently.
@USAToday reports, Britney Spears’ desire to finally be free of her father Jamie Spears as her conservator was just shut down in court. Judge Brenda Penny declined to grant Britney’s request to regain greater control over her life, her career and her $60 million fortune after 12 years under a conservatorship run by her father, with whom she has a very tumultuous relationship. According to Britney’s lawyer Samuel Ingham, this news is her worst nightmare and he recently spoke on her behalf to the judge.
“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Ingham told the judge. “She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.” Meanwhile, Jamie Spears is fighting back against his daughter’s claims. He believes that Britney is still not ready to resume running her own life, career and financial affairs, and that the career and millions she now has are because he has been so successful in managing her.
Samuel Ingham also argued in a court filing that Britney believes her father will attempt “to retain full functional control of her assets, books and records in the face of Britney’s objections.”
Ingham cited Jamie Spears’ recent failure to notify Britney that he had appointed a new business manager after the original manager resigned. She also strongly objects to the contents of her father’s latest accounting reports, which he is required to make regularly to the court.
Judge Penny set another court hearing for December 16th, citing that she lacked adequate documentation to immediately rule on Jamie’s additional request.
