These days, it seems like rap beefs arent just dropping bars theyre dropping lawsuits. What started as a musical link-up between two hip-hop heavyweights has now turned into a full-blown legal showdown. Harlem legend Camron and Dreamvilles own J. Cole are at odds, and the reason behind their fallout might have you double-checking those ‘Ready 24’ credits.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Camron claims he contributed lyrics and a verse to J. Coles song ‘Ready 24’ under one condition. Reportedly, Cole would either have to collaborate with him on a future project or make an appearance on Cams hit podcast, ‘It Is What It Is.‘But, Cam says Cole didnt follow through on either promise. The Dipset legend alleges that despite ongoing communicationbetween July 2023 and April 2024, Cole kept telling him he was unavailable for the podcast. And, their supposed future collab never came to life.
Cam now wants a judge to officially name him co-author of ‘Ready 24’ and order a complete financial breakdown of what the track has earned. Hes reportedly seeking over $500,000 in compensation for what he says is his rightful share of the profits. As of now, J. Coles camp hasnt publicly responded to the lawsuit. However, if this case goes forward, we might be witnessing one of the biggest rap legal showdowns of the year.
And of course, you already know The Breakfast Club had to weigh in! Charlamagne Tha God didnt hold back, saying he found it interesting that Camron was repeatedly told Cole was unavailable something he described as team talk. Charlamagne suggested that if Cam and Cole had spoken directly, instead of possibly going through teams or reps, the whole situation mightve been avoided. Its important for the artists to talk directly to each other, he said, implying that miscommunication mightve turned this into a full-blown lawsuit.
DJ Envy also chimed in, saying theres definitely more to the story. He pointed out that J. Cole has a reputation for being a “hands-on” artist who likes to handle things personally and wants to know the information. Whether Cole’s still interested but just not at the moment, or if theres deeper tension brewing, one things clear: this exchange feels uneven, and fans cant help but wonder what really went down between the two rap heavyweights.
