Cash App Founder Bob Lee Stabbed To Death In San Francisco

Bob Lee, one of the people who co-founded Cash App, tragically lost his life following a fatal stabbing in Northern California.

The Tech Exec Was Visiting San Francisco ‘For A Quick Visit’

According to NBC Bay Area, the 43-year-old was attacked on Tuesday morning in San Francisco. Reporter Scott McGrew points out that people close to Lee said he had recently relocated to Miami, though he popped back into San Francisco “for a quick visit.”

Officers arrived at the scene of the incident shortly after 2:30 a.m. and got Lee transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately passed away on account of his injuries.

No details on any potential suspects have been released, and no arrests have been made in the case.

Bob Lee Is Remembered As ‘A Force Of Nature’: ‘He Was A Child Of Dreams’

The tragic news was addressed in a statement from Josh Goldbard—CEO of MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency for which Lee was the chief product officer (CPO).

“Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators.”

Within this statement, Goldbard remembered Bob Lee as “the quintessential creator, leader, and consummate hacker” and noted that he “surely had an impact that will last far beyond his short time on earth.”

“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”

While acknowledging Bob’s work, we should add that he was also the first chief technology officer (CTO) for Square, a popular program that helps businesses process credit and debit card payments.

He’s also noted as having made “large contributions to Android,” and his LinkedIn profile acknowledges that he “added several features to the Java programming language and platform.” As such, it’s clear that Lee’s work impacted many lives.

The San Francisco Police Department is asking for anyone with information on the matter to 415-575-4444.

There are no further updates to the situation at this time. We send our condolences to Bob Lee’s loved ones.
